The annual climate cycle in Sahel consist of two close monsoons from May to September, and a long drought period October to April. Rainfall decreases towards north, and the Sahel turns into the Sahara Desert. The oldest rainfall records are about 100 years old, and for the last decade rainfall estimates from satellite data has become important.
